Toyota buys an autonomous driving unit at the American company, Lift

The Japanese company "Toyota" acquired the "autonomous driving unit" in the American company "Lift" for passenger transportation services, for $ 500 million.

The acquisition was carried out by Toyota's Woven Planet Holdings, which started operations in January and focuses on innovations and investment in projects such as "smart cities", robotics and robotic driving.

The Woven Planet projects will include engineers and researchers in the fields of "transmission, programming, sensors and robotic driving systems" to further develop the technology, according to Toyota.

"This deal brings people, resources and infrastructure together, and helps us develop transportation technologies for a happier and safer future," said James Kovner, CEO of Woven Planet.

Woven Planet and Lyft also signed a commercial agreement to use Lyft and its data to accelerate commercialization of the technology.

Toyota also indicated that the deal means Woven Planet will use "Tokyo, Palo Alto and London" as its locations.
