Klopp returns to the football scene in a new position

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been appointed chief operating officer of Red Bull, which owns RB Leipzig, Salzburg and New York City, the Austrian group said on Wednesday.

"After nearly 25 years on the coaching bench, I couldn't be more excited to be involved in a project like this," said Klopp, 57, who stepped down from his role at the Reds at the end of last season after nine years at the club.

"I see my role primarily as an advisor to the coaches and management of the Red Bull clubs," the former Borussia Dortmund coach, who will take up his new managerial duties on January 1, 2025, added.

"Klopp will not interfere in the day-to-day operations of the clubs, but will take on a higher-level strategic role," the Austrian energy drink brand said in a statement on Wednesday.

The German ruled out coaching again in the near future this summer. According to the German network "Sky", Klopp's contract with Red Bull contains a departure clause if he has the opportunity to become the coach of his country's national team.

Klopp returned Liverpool to the local and continental arenas during his time at "Anfield" stadium, and led it to win the English Premier League and the Champions League.

Red Bull is active in many sports competitions in addition to football, most notably the Formula One World Championship with the Red Bull Racing team, which won the drivers' titles in the past three years with the Dutchman, Max Verstappen, and the manufacturers' titles in the past two years.
