In his inaugural address, US President Donald Trump called for a “common sense revolution,” promising that “the golden age of the United States begins now.”
“I return to the presidency confident and optimistic that we are at the beginning of a new era of success for our country,” Mr. Trump said after taking the oath of office on Monday inside the Capitol building for his second non-consecutive presidential term.
He stressed that the United States will once again be “greater, stronger, and more exceptional,” adding that “the era of America’s decline is over.”
In order to restore the United States to its glory, the 47th president pledged at the beginning of his second presidential term to sign a series of presidential decrees, covering immigration, the economy, energy, and social issues.
On the international level, Mr. Trump pledged to restore the world to “the spirit of solidarity,” welcoming the ceasefire agreement in the Middle East, which came into effect on Sunday.
Regarding relations with neighboring countries, the new resident of the White House said that the name of the sea between the United States and Mexico will be changed from the “Gulf of Mexico” to the “Gulf of America,” adding that his country will regain ownership of the Panama Canal.
The inauguration ceremony of President Trump was attended by several former US presidents, a number of political figures, and celebrities from the worlds of technology, art, media, and sports.
In view of the polar cold wave that the US federal capital is witnessing, the inauguration ceremony was moved inside the Capitol building, for the first time in 40 years.
In another speech he delivered to a crowd that included in particular his supporters, who gathered inside the Constitutional Hall in the Capitol building, Donald Trump reiterated the priority of the immigration issue, adding that the influx of illegal immigrants is more important than inflation.
He stressed: “I think the people who come to our country from prisons and mental hospitals are a bigger problem for the people I know. I have made it my number one issue.”
