LIVERPOOL TAXI EXPLOSION: WHAT WE KNOW

A taxi exploded outside a women's hospital in Liverpool, northern England, on Sunday. Four individuals were arrested and the facts were qualified as a "terrorist incident".

  • WHAT HAPPENED ?

The explosion occurred on Sunday morning, around 11 a.m., outside the Women's Hospital, and a few hundred yards from Liverpool Cathedral where hundreds of soldiers, veterans and citizens were gathered for a tribute to the occasion of "Remembrance Sunday", day of commemoration of the victims of the war. No link has been established between this celebration and the explosion of the taxi.

The incident caused the death of one person and injured another. Initial evidence is that the taxi passenger "made" an explosive device that he brought in the car and died in the flames.

The taxi driver was injured as he tried to flee. According to the British press and tabloids, the driver felt his passenger looked "suspicious" and locked the doors of the car before escaping, preventing the man from getting out. This information was initially not confirmed by the police, but was confirmed on Monday by Joanne Anderson, Mayor of Liverpool, and by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

After the explosion, the taxi driver was taken to hospital, which he has since left in good health, law enforcement said.

  • WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT THE ASSAILLANT?

Counterterrorism police were immediately tasked with the investigation. At this point, no information has been released regarding the identity of the deceased assailant. Investigators said Monday evening that they had identified the man, but did not wish to reveal his identity for the moment.

They have also already made four arrests. Four men, aged 20 to 29, "were arrested in the Kensington area of Liverpool and arrested under the Terrorism Act." Police also searched two addresses in the city. At one of them, avenue Rutland, "important elements have been found and additional research will be necessary today and potentially in the coming days," police said.

These first elements allowed the police to qualify this act as a "terrorist incident" on Monday evening. The motivations of the suspected terrorist and those arrested remain unknown for the time being, and the facts have not been claimed.

  • LEVEL OF TERRORIST THREAT RAISED

Faced with this new attack, British Home Secretary Priti Patel announced that the UK had raised its level of the terrorist threat to "serious". He recalled that the explosion of this car in Liverpool was the second act considered terrorist after the murder of MP David Amess a month ago. This threat level means that the risk of attack is considered “highly probable”.

Russian Su-35 fighter

While the United Arab Emirates is awaiting the completion of the deal to acquire the American stealth fighter "F-35", which was concluded during the last days of the administration of former US President Donald Trump, Russia is displaying a prototype of its new fifth-generation warplane at the Dubai Air Show, Sunday.

Reuters quoted the Russian news agency as saying that an Emirati delegation visited the Russian pavilion to inspect the Russian Sukhoi Su-75 Shekmet, which is being shown for the first time outside its country of origin.

Reuters reported that "a computer simulation video in English of the warplane showed that it is tactical and light, capable of carrying five air-to-air missiles at the same time, and destroying multiple targets simultaneously."

Last July, Russian President Vladimir Putin unveiled this plane as a cost-effective fighter that can fly at Mach 1.8, almost twice the speed of sound, and range between 2,800 and 2,900 kilometers.

This fighter is scheduled to conduct its first test flight in 2023 and start production by 2026, while the American stealth fighter "F-35", has already entered service in 2015.

In 2017, the United Arab Emirates signed a preliminary deal to buy Su-35 warplanes and jointly work with Russia on a next-generation fighter, but it appears that it has not made progress so far.

The United States agreed to sell the plane after the United Arab Emirates established relations with Israel last year.

However, the deal of 50 F-35 Lining 2 planes to the UAE has slowed amid the Gulf state's accelerating relationship with China, including the spread of Huawei's fifth generation technology in the country.

Is the threat of ISIS diminished with al-Baghdadi's death?

Is the threat of ISIS diminished with al-Baghdadi's death?A US Army report revealed that the elimination of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi last October had not stopped ISIS's terrorist operations, nor did it lead to an immediate deterioration of the terrorist group's capabilities.

The leadership of the US Central and Intelligence Agency assessed the impact of al-Baghdadi's killing on ISIS capabilities, and submitted the report to the Pentagon.

The report indicated that ISIS has been implementing a current succession plan since the killing of al-Baghdadi, and that the plan continues without interruption.

In late October, US President Donald Trump announced the killing of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi during a raid by the U.S. Special Operations Forces on his location in Syria, and that he blew himself up with his children.

Trump said the killing of al-Baghdadi indicates America's continued pursuit of the elimination of terrorist leaders, and our commitment to the permanent and comprehensive defeat of ISIS and other terrorist organizations.

Less than a week after al-Baghdadi was killed, on October 31, the group announced the appointment of Abu Ibrahim al-Hashemi al-Qurashi as his successor.

The report of the US Central Command considers that Al-Baghdadi's death is the latest evidence of the continuing work to defeat the terrorist group, indicating that the policy of striking high-level leaders in the organization may not be effective in eliminating the threat that it continues to pose.
The US Central Command, the Pentagon's Inspector General's office, told us that in the wake of the death of the ISIS leader, "ISIS has remained coherent with a sound command and control structure, covert networks, and insurgent presence in many rural areas of Syria."

The remnants of ISIS are trying to regroup with the development of the organization from an occupying power of cities to rebels, who can carry out attacks locally, as well as incite external attacks, such as individual wolves in the West.

What was she doing #Malakhova # on the crashed Ukrainian plane

According to press reports, one of the victims of the Ukrainian plane that was shot down in Iran was a Ukrainian businesswoman who ran two companies suspected by the United Nations of links to the mysterious arms trade fueling the war in Libya, amid questions about the reason for Olina Malakhova's visit to Tehran.

The two companies, which were Olina Malakhova (38 years), run by "Ukraine-based" SkyAviaTrans, and "Volaris Business" based in Scotland, which are specialized in air freight.

The two companies own only one plane, but they were destroyed in Libya in August last year in a strike launched by Haftar forces while landing at Misrata airport, which is under the control of the internationally recognized government of reconciliation.

At the time, the company "SkyAviaTrans" reported that the plane was carrying humanitarian aid from Ankara, which was supported by the Ukrainian government, but Haftar's forces stated that the plane was carrying military equipment.

A UN investigation also suspected that the plane was carrying military materials such as the body and wings of drones.

It is not known what Malakhova was doing in Tehran. A spokesman for "SkyAviaTrans" company said that the company had no business in Iran, and was not aware that Malakhova was present in Iran at that time.

The spokesman added that Malakhova spent the last months focusing on providing funds to replace the plane that was destroyed in Libya.

The flight records obtained by CNN from the flight tracking website, flightradar24, showed that the plane made more than 30 flights between Ukraine, Turkey and Libya between May and August 2019 before its destruction.

Prior to that, the plane had carried out 13 flights during November and December 2018 between the Emirates and Aden in Yemen, where the UAE is engaging in a Saudi-led military alliance to confront the Iranian-backed Houthis, according to CNN.

The plane made about six flights to Afghanistan in the same year, in conjunction with the Emirates' announcement of a new project to train Afghan forces.

Turkish Parliament approves sending troops to Libya

On Thursday, the Turkish Parliament approved by an overwhelming majority a bill that would allow the sending of troops to Libya, paving the way for closer military cooperation between Ankara and Tripoli, but it is unlikely to lead to the immediate deployment of troops.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, whose ruling coalition has a majority in parliament, said last week that Turkey would deploy forces to Libya to support the national reconciliation government led by the internationally recognised winner of al-Sarraj.

Al-Wefaq's government has requested Turkey's support as it faces an offensive from eastern Libya (the Libyan National Army) led by Khalifa Haftar, which is backed by Russia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan.

The decision came after Ankara and the Libyan National Accord Government signed two separate agreements in November, one related to security and military cooperation and the other related to the maritime borders of the eastern Mediterranean, provoking the anger of Greece, Israel, Egypt and Cyprus.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated immediately after the announcement of the result of the vote that it strongly condemned the decision of the Turkish Parliament and called on the international community to "urgently fulfil its responsibilities in the face of these developments".

Parliament adopted the bill, which was rejected by all the main opposition parties, with 315 approvals and 184 protests. Opposition parties say the measure could exacerbate the conflicts in Libya and endanger Turkish soldiers and Turkish national security.

Erdogan's spokesman, Ibrahim Kalin, said the bill was an important step to protect Ankara's interests in North Africa and the Mediterranean region and to bring peace and stability to Libya.

The interior minister of the Libyan National Accord government, Fathi Pashaga, told Reuters that Tripoli had asked for Turkey's support after the dangerous escalation of the conflict by Haftar forces.

The minister said: "The National Reconciliation Government is the legitimate government internationally recognized without question ... and it has the full right to defend its legitimacy."

"The Turkish military presence in Libya" will only aggravate the situation, said Russian representative Dmitri Novakov quoted by Interfax news agency after the vote.

Clashes near US embassy in Iraq

Security forces at the American Embassy in Baghdad fired tear gas tear gas on Wednesday morning (January 1st) to disperse hundreds of Iraqi protesters who were burning the American flag, an AFP photo
Pro-Iranian protesters in the country were once again trying to approach the American Embassy, burning American flags and the phrase "America's Great Satan". They were then fired tear gas at the demonstrators from inside the Embassy's huge compound, according to an AFP photographer.

Meanwhile, witnesses reported Wednesday that a gradual withdrawal of some Iraqi protesters from the US embassy in Baghdad has begun, and the Popular Mobilization Authority (PMF) in Iraq today called on the public near the US embassy to withdraw in respect of the Iraqi government's decision.

Iraqi forces re-closed the Green Zone Wednesday morning after the demonstrators entered it on Tuesday.

The German News Agency (DPA) quoted the Iraqi News Agency (INA) and eyewitnesses as saying that there were suffocation cases and that some protesters set fire to the embassy's outer fence.

Trump aides comment on success of US strikes in Iraq, Syria

US officials said Sunday that U.S. air attacks in Iraq and Syria against an Iranian-backed militant group were successful but warned that "additional measures" could be taken in the region to defend American i

Officials said the American army launched air raids in Iraq and Syria against the Hezbollah Armed Brigades Group in response to the death of an American civilian contractor in a rocket attack on an Iraqi military base.

Top U.S. national security advisors told President Donald Trump of the attacks at his Mar Lago club in Palm Beach, Fla. American Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said, “We will not tolerate the Islamic Ra
y, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, briefly appeared in a club room to comment on the air attacks.

Iraqi security sources and others from the group said that at least 25 fighters were killed and at least 55 others were injured following three air raids launched by the United States in Iraq on Sunday.

At least four of the group's local leaders were killed and one of the air raids targeted the headquarters of the Hezbollah Brigades near al-Qaim in the western part of the country on the border with Syria, the sources said.

The Pentagon said in a statement that the attack targeted three sites of the Iranian-backed group in Iraq and two in Syria, adding that the sites included weapons storage facilities, command and control sites the group used to plan and carry out attacks on coalition forces.

The United States accused the group of being involved in the attack, which was carried out by more than 30 missiles on Friday, killing an American civilian contractor and wounding four American soldiers and two Iraqi security forces near the oil-rich city of Kirkuk.

Pompeo had accused Iranian-backed factions earlier in December of being involved in a series of attacks on bases in Iraq and warned Iran that any attacks on Tehran or its agents would harm the Americans or their allies "would be met with a decisive American response".

CONCLUSION

The question that is asked, will the matter stop here or will we enter the cycle of action and reaction, that is, the Syrian and Iraqi lands become a ground for settling the accounts between Iran and America?

Turkey seeks to thwart Hifter's plot in Libya

The Turkish Foreign Minister warned that the Libyan conflict threatens to slide the country into "chaos", while a source in the National Accord government denied the presence of Syrian fighters in its ranks, and the United Nations mission condemned the targeting of civilian facilities in the west of the country.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşo أوlu warned that the Libyan conflict threatens to slide the country into anarchy and become the next Syria, as he seeks to accelerate the passage of legislation allowing Ankara to send troops there. "If Libya becomes today like Syria, then the role will come on other countries in the region," Gawishoglu said in statements during a meeting of the ruling Justice and Development Party on Saturday. He added, "We must do everything necessary to prevent the division of Libya and its descent into chaos, and this is what we do." The legitimate government there is what we are dealing with. " He stressed the importance of the military and security agreement that Turkey signed with Libya.

Gawishoglu will meet with three leaders of the opposition parties tomorrow, and Parliament is expected to discuss legislation within the next week, while the Turkish president had previously announced that the date is the eighth and ninth of next month.

In a related context, the media office of the President of the Presidential Council of the National Accord Government denied the authenticity of the video records that are being circulated on some social media pages, which show some Syrian fighters in a camp, and claim that they are in Libya. In a statement published this morning (Sunday, December 29, 2019), the office pointed out the need for local and international news channels to prove and ensure that the recordings were taken in the Syrian city of Idlib, without reference to the names of the channels. In the statement, the Government of National Accord confirmed its prosecution of all those who contribute to the dissemination of these lies and other slanders, as described, considering the publication of these records as a desperate attempt to distort the victories achieved by its forces.

The Japanese government announced Friday that it will send a military force for international waters in the Middle East to carry out the mission of gathering information in order to ensure the safety of sea routes in this region, which are the main keys to reaching Japan's energy needs.

According to the government statement published by the Ministry of Defense, the military deployment will last for a year and by the end of the period the possibility of extending the period will be discussed or not.

These aircraft participate in missions to prevent maritime piracy incidents.

This military force will include 260 officers, according to the Japanese Broadcasting Corporation (NHK).

Suga explained that the mission of these forces will be "gathering information" in order to ensure the safety of sea routes in the Middle East, which are the ways through which Japan imports 90% of the oil it consumes.

According to the official government statement, the forces will be present in some areas in the Gulf of Oman, north of the Arabian Sea and near the Bab al-Mandab strait, which is the gateway to the Red Sea from the south.

Is America preparing to wage war against Iran?

Arab newspapers discussed the motives of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to a number of countries in the region. Some writers commented on Pompeo's speech in Cairo, calling it "a declaration of war against Iran."

"War scenario"
Is America preparing to wage war against Iran?

"The speech made by Pompeo at the American University in Cairo is a declaration of war against Iran and its military arms in the region, especially Hezbollah, and a desperate attempt to improve the image of his country in the Middle East and to reassure the Israelis that America will work on," Abdel Bari Atwan said. And their choice of Cairo and the American University, and not Riyadh to explain the new (Middle East) policy of his country, was intended and carefully calculated, to baptize her spearhead in this policy. "

"The most dangerous thing that the American secretary of state said in our opinion is the following: We must move from the stage of containing Iran to the stage of confrontation. The era of American inaction is over and we will prevent the spread of Iranian influence in the region. Implementation soon ".

"Foreign Minister Mike Pompeiro appeared vague in his statements about the withdrawal from Syria, with the start of his tour of the region," said Osman Mirghani in the Middle East.

"While he stressed that the most important challenges facing the region (is the Iranian Islamic revolution and revolution), saying that the battle is continuing, he did not speak with the same clarity about the decision to withdraw US troops from Syria, but seemed to confirm the step, which sparked a sudden announcement a lot of "The president's decision to withdraw our troops from Syria does not affect our ability to confront the challenges he has pointed out, especially strengthening the alliance against Iran," he said.

Merkel expresses her opinion on the idea of a unified European army

A few months after calling for the creation of a joint European army, German Chancellor Angela Merkel reiterated that her country would be problematic in such an army. Merkel explained aspects of Germany that make her "a partner is not easy."

Merkel expresses her opinion on the idea of a unified European army

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in Greece on Friday (January 11, 2019) that she believed it would be too long to form a joint European army, pointing out that one of the reasons is also Germany itself.

"We in Germany will be a big problem in the formation of a joint European army, because every military intervention by our country must be approved by parliament," Merkel said during a meeting with students of the German school in Athens on Friday as part of her two-day visit to Greece. "Of course, the other countries will say, 'Oh hell, they go to Parliament every time and have to ask whether parliamentarians agree or not - can I trust such a partner, do I trust such a state?'

Merkel added that such a problem also exists with regard to joint armament systems, which must be developed for a common European army, as well as for the possibility of export, stating: "Germany has strict rules applied to the arms we give, because of its past Also, we are not an easy partner. "

Merkel said it would be difficult for France, for example, if a tank or aircraft is manufactured jointly, and then one of the two countries wanted to export later, the other partner might say, for example, that we do not want to export to Turkey or Saudi Arabia. By partners.

In November, the German chancellor endorsed the idea of a joint European army and said in a speech to the European Parliament in Strasbourg: "We must work on this idea, and one day we will also create a real European army."

There is a question raised whether you moved from direct confrontation to the individual blitz operations as recently limited in France, Morocco and now Egypt is a method that will pose a great threat to the security of countries

Qu'a dit Erdogan?
