The US military has carried out "defensive strikes" in Iraq and Syria against the Hezbollah Brigades, US officials told Reuters on Sunday.
The Pentagon said in a statement that it targeted three Iranian-backed groups in Iraq and two sites in Syria.
"In response to repeated attacks by Hezbollah battalions on Iraqi bases hosting Operation Resolve Alliance forces, US forces carried out precision defensive strikes... "It will limit the ability of Hezbollah brigades to launch attacks on coalition forces in the future."
On Friday, a US civilian contractor was killed in a rocket attack on an Iraqi military base near Kirkuk.
