Washington seeks to attract the attention of FIFA to host matches in the 2026 World Cup

The "Washington Post" newspaper said that the capital has hosted matches in three World Cup finals, and has hosted Olympic football matches twice, in addition to other international football matches, over three decades.

FIFA conducts a “scanning process” before identifying and selecting the appropriate venues to host matches, so local authorities are keen on the smallest details in order to draw the attention of the relevant committee.

FIFA will select 16 locations in the United States, Mexico and Canada, which will host the 2026 World Cup.

FIFA experts will explore some of the places that may be suitable for hosting matches. A few days ago, an inspection tour of them began in the United States, where more than 20 experts are touring different places.

Experts surveyed FedEx Field, an NFL stadium in Landover, which could host several matches in the 2026 World Cup.

The experts did not say what they thought, as they did in other places they went, but they did point out Washington's status as a capital, a major destination, and a place that could host major events.

It is reported that Washington is one of 17 American cities competing among themselves, as 10 or 11 places will be determined in the United States to hold the matches, while it is expected that 3 places will be determined in Mexico, and two or three places in Canada.

The three countries joined forces, and in 2018, Morocco defeated the rights to host the World Cup in 2026, and it is reported that the 2022 World Cup will be held in Qatar.
