The surplus in the merchandise trade balance of the State of Qatar, in the first nine months of this year, reached 68.7 billion riyals (19 billion dollars), despite the challenges posed by the global Corona pandemic.
Official data of the Ministry of Planning and Statistics showed, on Sunday, that the surplus of the trade balance in Qatar, which is the difference between total exports and imports, decreased by 43 percent from 120.86 billion riyals (33.5 billion dollars) in the same nine months of 2019.
The decline in Qatar's annual trade surplus is due to the effects of the Corona pandemic on the global economy, the disruption of supplies, lower consumption and lower fuel demand.
The data also indicated that Qatari exports decreased by 30.7 percent year on year to 138.4 billion riyals (38.35 billion dollars) in the nine months ending last September, from 199.7 billion riyals (55.34 billion dollars) in the comparative period, according to what was reported by the "Anatolia" agency.
The trade balance showed a decrease in the value of imports by 11.7 percent during the comparative period to 69.68 billion riyals (19.31 billion dollars), from 78.9 billion riyals (21.86 billion dollars) in the same period of 2019.
It should be noted that Qatar is one of the largest producers and exporters of LNG in the world, amid competition with the United States of America and Australia for market share around the world.
