France holds military deals with Morocco

France no longer hides its annoyance at the total dependence of the Moroccan military machine on the American market; it decided to enter strongly into various deals with Rabat, which included artillery, short-range air defense systems and submarines, to be announced during the visit of the French President, Emmanuel Macron, to the Kingdom.

According to media sources, "French arms companies obtained licenses to sell military equipment for the benefit of the Royal Armed Forces, thereby breaking the Americans' control of the majority of the military deals concluded by the Kingdom," highlighting that the French company "Nexter" recently concluded a contract worth 200 million euros to sell artillery systems Caesar (170 million) and ammunition (30 million).

In addition, during the year 2019, French missile company MBDA sold VL-Mica short-range ground defense systems to the Moroccan armed forces for 200 million euros.

The newspaper "La Tribune" stated that "Morocco concluded a series of military deals during the year 2019, with a total value that exceeded 400 million euros."

These deals come to reinforce the capabilities of the Royal Artillery that has acquired a variety of materiel, both for ground-to-ground artillery and for ground-to-air artillery. These deals will be officially announced during President Macron's upcoming visit to Rabat in the first half of this year.

Despite total dependence on the American market, Morocco is at the top of the list of North African countries that spend the most on French-made weapons, while Algeria ranked second by concluding arms deals with the French government worth 107 million euros, while Tunisia's spending did not exceed 1 million. euro. In return, the Arab Republic of Egypt ranked first in the Arab world, with a spending amount of 1.3 billion euros.

Morocco is one of the largest customers on the French market with regard to the acquisition of weapons in the world, as it ranked sixth after Saudi Arabia, India, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America, according to a report of the French Ministry of Defense on French arms exports.

And it became certain that the French President, Emmanuel Macron, despite the crowding of international agendas and the boiling of the Parisian street, will pay an official visit to the Moroccan capital Rabat and meet King Mohammed VI, according to a group of media platforms.

This visit comes to break a "series" of delays, either due to the President's agendas, or the absence of the necessary protocol arrangements.
