One dead and 157 injured in the Turkish plane fission accident

The Turkish authorities announced the death of one person and the injury of 157 others on Wednesday as a result of a plane crash and fire after it departed from the runway at the Sabiha International Airport in Istanbul, according to a new toll of the Minister of Health.

"So far, 157 people have been taken to hospital, and one of our citizens has died," Minister Fakhruddin Kuja told a press conference.

The plane is a Boeing 737 belonging to the Turkish airline, Pegasus Airlines, and seemed to run on the runway with difficulty in light of heavy rains, before suddenly leaving the runway and falling, and fire breaks out.

The plane was coming from the Turkish city of Izmir, in the west of the country, and preliminary analyzes suggest that the accident occurred due to the heavy rains that hit Istanbul.

Sabiha airport was closed to flights, and all planes were transferred to Istanbul International Airport, located on the European bank of the economic capital.

In 2018, a Pegasus aircraft flew off the runway in Trabzon, northeastern Turkey, and ended up hanging on the verge of a valley. None of its passengers was hurt.
