The sea tunnel project between Morocco and Spain enters a new turning point

 The Spanish Society for the Study of Fixed Cross-Strait Communications (SECEGSA) announced the carrying out of a seismic research study to enhance studies within the framework of the railway tunnel project between Spain and Morocco.


To this end, the Spanish Research Institute has launched a call for applications to lease, with an option to purchase, four ocean bottom seismometers (OBS), which will be developed by the Geophysics Department of the Spanish Army Observatory (ROA) for a period of six months and the contract value is 487,872 euros. .

The route chosen for the giant project after the studies conducted so far will be 42 kilometers, between Punta Paloma in Tarifa, Spain, and Malabata, Tangier.


There will be two single-lane tunnels with a diameter of 7.9 metres, with a service corridor with a diameter of 6 metres. The three tunnels will be connected by cross passages every 340 metres, according to Europa Sur.


Moreover, the American magazine Newsweek estimated the financial cost of this huge project at 6 billion euros, which would enable the transport of 12.8 million passengers annually, as well as 13 million tons of cargo.
