Melania tweeted, "Historian Michael Bichlos has proven his ignorance by showing a picture of a budding rose garden, a rose garden decorated with healthy and colorful roses, and his misinformation is dishonest and should never be trusted as a professional historian."

The tweet, which came from the former first lady's office, came in response to a tweet by Bichlos, a presidential historian for NBC News and a frequent critic of former President Donald Trump, who said that "the defamation of the Rose Garden in the White House ended a year ago this month," adding: "Here The outcome was bleak; Decades of American history are gone.”

The Trump White House unveiled its newly renovated Rose Garden at the time, as the then first lady was leading the renovations. Last August, her office said she wanted to bring the area closer to the original 1962 design by Rachel Lambert Mellon during the Kennedy administration. .

The changes sparked criticism among many who attacked the historic garden's new look, and a petition appeared in April, with more than 80,000 signatures, calling on First Lady Jill Biden and Second Lady Doug Imhoff to repeal the Rose Garden changes.

"We want Jill Biden and Doug Imhoff to take this upon themselves and restore the Rose Garden to former first lady Jackie Kennedy's original design," the Change.org petition read.
