This came during Al-Kuwari's meeting, yesterday, Sunday, with a delegation of members of the Qatari-French Economic Association "Cadran" and the international branch of the French-Qatari Committee of the International Employers Association "Medif International".
According to the Qatari newspaper, "Al-Rai", the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to France, Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al Thani, attended the meeting, and the trade, industrial and investment relations between the two countries were discussed, and the most prominent ways to develop them in light of the close ties that bind the two friendly countries.
Al-Kuwari stressed the importance of cooperation with the “Kadran” and “MEDEF” associations, as it represents an important economic step in the distinguished relations between Qatar and France, and an additional building block in the edifice of the well-established economic relations between the two countries, pointing out that the trade exchange between the two countries was It has an important role in strengthening economic and trade relations, reaching nearly $1.36 billion during 2020.
The Minister of Commerce and Industry and Acting Minister of Finance of Qatar indicated that France is one of the most important strategic partners of the State of Qatar, as the number of French companies operating in the State of Qatar reached 418, including 68 companies with 100% French ownership, 339 companies established in partnership with the Qatari side, and 8 companies Licensed by the Qatar Financial Center, and 3 representative offices of the Republic of France.
He pointed out that Qatar has moved towards accelerating the implementation of initiatives and projects aimed at enhancing its economic openness and supporting its position as an ideal destination for business and investment through the development and issuance of legislation that stimulates the foreign private sector. Such as the law regulating investment of non-Qatari capital in economic activity, and the law of investment free zones, which allow foreign investors to own 10%.
Al-Kuwari added that Qatar has worked to allow individuals and non-Qatari commercial companies to own real estate in several vital economic and tourist areas in the country, as well as issuing a law to regulate partnership between the public and private sectors, with the aim of increasing the contribution of private sector companies in implementing, building, financing, operating and managing development projects for the state. In this regard, French companies have to take advantage of this legislation and establish more investments in the Qatari market.
For their part, businessmen of the French-Qatari Economic Association "Cadran" and the international branch of the French Employers Association "MEDEF" praised the relations between France and Qatar, stressing the keenness of the French government and the private sector there to strengthen relations for the benefit of the two countries.
It is noteworthy that "Kadran" is an independent, non-profit organization established in 2015. Its membership includes major Qatari commercial institutions operating in France and major French companies operating in Qatar. Its main objectives are to organize annual academic and social events to promote dialogue and exchange of views between Qatari and French companies.
As for "MEDEF International", which was established in 1998, it is an employers' organization that represents French companies and has a wide presence in the French social debate. It aims to represent French companies with state institutions and unions. The organization has a membership of 750,000 companies.
