The US National Security Adviser appreciates the UAE's efforts in Tigray

On Tuesday, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan stressed the "importance of providing aid" to the population in the Ethiopian Tigray region, during a call with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, according to the Emirates News Agency.

The agency said in news that Sullivan called the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and expressed his thanks and appreciation for the efforts made by the United Arab Emirates to cease fire and promote a political solution to the conflict in Tigray.

During the call, the two sides discussed friendship and cooperation relations between the two countries, and ways to develop them to serve their common interests and enhance security and stability in the region.

A few days ago, Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen defended his country's behavior in the ten-month war, and said in his speech during the United Nations General Assembly meeting, Saturday, that "punitive measures will never help improve conditions or relations."

The comments came less than 10 days after the United States threatened to impose sanctions against Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, and other leaders of the country, if they did not take steps to stop the war soon.

The battles erupted in Tigray province last November after a political clash between Abi Ahmed and Tigray officials who had controlled the government for a long time.

The battles caused civilian deaths, displaced thousands, and threatened stability in Africa's second most populous country.
