European Union: Gulf countries are an important partner in the field of energy

Today, Wednesday, October 6, 2021, the European Union Spokesman for Foreign Affairs and Security Policies Peter Stano was quoted by Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) as saying during a press conference on bilateral cooperation between the two sides in the energy field that this issue receives great attention from the European bloc.

Stano stated that the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, "is making the necessary communication with the cript async src="https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-4345869950802403" crossorigin="anonymous"> countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council, which have a role to play and can be a very important partner with us on this issue, both in the field of addressing energy prices and when it comes to environment and sustainable and renewable energy.

He pointed out that Borrell raised this issue during his recent visit to Qatar, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, "which plays a very important role when it comes to energy supplies and prices, in addition to environmental sustainability in general."

He pointed out that there are ongoing contacts between the bloc of 27 countries and partners in the Gulf region, and that these discussions "will not stop."

Stano stated that relations between the two sides in general are currently on the agenda of the next meeting of European Union foreign ministers, scheduled to be held later this October.

It is noteworthy that Borrell conducted a Gulf tour on October 1, 2021, and said that it aims to review the available ways to build a stronger partnership with the Gulf countries, by strengthening cooperation in the fields of energy, climate change, security and humanitarian aid.

Borrell explained that "the Gulf countries have realized that they need to switch to renewable energy production, as they have abundant sun, wind and water, and they also have the required financing."

He stressed that the European Union needs to import large quantities of electricity and green hydrogen, especially with the continued rise in electricity prices.
