The CEO of "NEOM", Nazmi Al-Nasr, announced that the Saudi city of "NEOM" will be the first region in the world to feed on renewable energy only.
Al-Nasr's speech came in an interview with Al-Arabiya channel on Saturday evening, on the sidelines of his participation in the first edition of the annual forum of the Green Saudi Initiative in Riyadh.
The forum is concerned with launching new environmental initiatives for the Kingdom, and following up on the impact of the previously announced initiatives, in order to achieve the objectives of the Green Saudi Initiative.
Al-Nasr said: "NEOM, when it was launched in 2017, was among the main messages I sent to the whole world, that it would be the first region in the world to be fed by 100% renewable energy, and this is a not easy task."
The CEO of the company stressed that the city of NEOM, located in northwest Saudi Arabia, will be ready by 2024 to receive tourists, investors and those wishing to buy real estate.
He pointed out that some tourist areas are being developed, as well as some economic sectors.
NEOM is a Saudi project for a city planned to be built across the border, launched by Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, the Saudi Crown Prince, on October 24, 2017.
The project extends over an area of 460 km on the Red Sea coast, and aims within the framework of the ambitious aspirations of Vision 2030 to transform the Kingdom into a leading global model in various aspects of life, by focusing on attracting value chains in industries and technology within the project. The first phase of the project will be completed by 2025.
