While the United Arab Emirates is awaiting the completion of the deal to acquire the American stealth fighter "F-35", which was concluded during the last days of the administration of former US President Donald Trump, Russia is displaying a prototype of its new fifth-generation warplane at the Dubai Air Show, Sunday.
Reuters quoted the Russian news agency as saying that an Emirati delegation visited the Russian pavilion to inspect the Russian Sukhoi Su-75 Shekmet, which is being shown for the first time outside its country of origin.
Reuters reported that "a computer simulation video in English of the warplane showed that it is tactical and light, capable of carrying five air-to-air missiles at the same time, and destroying multiple targets simultaneously."
Last July, Russian President Vladimir Putin unveiled this plane as a cost-effective fighter that can fly at Mach 1.8, almost twice the speed of sound, and range between 2,800 and 2,900 kilometers.
This fighter is scheduled to conduct its first test flight in 2023 and start production by 2026, while the American stealth fighter "F-35", has already entered service in 2015.
In 2017, the United Arab Emirates signed a preliminary deal to buy Su-35 warplanes and jointly work with Russia on a next-generation fighter, but it appears that it has not made progress so far.
The United States agreed to sell the plane after the United Arab Emirates established relations with Israel last year.
However, the deal of 50 F-35 Lining 2 planes to the UAE has slowed amid the Gulf state's accelerating relationship with China, including the spread of Huawei's fifth generation technology in the country.
