Red card for Wish. The French fraud repression services on November 24 requested the delisting of the famous online commerce platform.
Concretely, in the coming days, Wish will disappear from search engines. This means that if you are looking for a particular product, Google will no longer refer you to Wish.
Please note: this is not the end of the famous e-commerce site. The platform, which mainly sells cheap and made in China products, will still be accessible through its address. You just have to type it in the navigation bar.
PRODUCTS DEEMED TO DANGEROUS
This sanction, which Wish considers “disproportionate”, marks the end of a long standoff between the platform and the French authorities. An investigation by the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) noted the presence of several non-compliant objects on the site.
But instead of removing them, as requested, Wish let the ads reappear under other names. Result: out of 140 products analyzed, 90% of electrical appliances are classified as “dangerous”, as are 62% of costume jewelry and 45% of toys. "Some toys were made with small elements that came off too easily, at the risk of being ingested and causing suffocation to toddlers," said the Ministry of the Economy in Paris.
The de-listing of Wish was therefore recorded by the authorities. "There is no reason to tolerate online what we do not accept in physical stores", explained the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire to the Parisian.
The American platform created in 2010, which has more than 100 million users around the world, will be sanctioned until it complies with French law. Wish has already announced that it is starting "a legal remedy to challenge what we consider to be an illegal action". The site considers that it has "no legal obligation to carry out checks on the 150 million products" that it offers for sale.
