Miss Baghdad and fashion model Tarah Fares were killed
after unknown gunmen opened fire on her in the Karm Sarah area of
Baghdad on September 27, according to the Iraqi news agency Alsumaria

The website said that the ministry said in a statement that it "opened an urgent investigation into the circumstances of the incident of the killing of model, Tara Faris Shamoon, who was shot three shots, resulting in the death immediately in the area of Karm Sarah in Baghdad."
"The armed group that attacked Atara Fares tried to kidnap her," the source said.
According to the agency, the source added that "after the group failed to force them to accompany them, they beat her on the face, before firing several bullets hit in the area of the head and chest, killing her instantly."
The 22-year-old was chosen as Miss Iraq's 2014 runner-up and was named Miss Baghdad in 2015.
