Iran's Olympic star leaves her country to escape "hypocrisy and injustice"

Kimia Alizadeh, the only Iranian with an Olympic medal, has announced that she has left her country to escape "injustice and hypocrisy".


The 21-year-old said on social media that she left Iran because she does not want to be part of "hypocrisy, lying, injustice, and flattery."

She described herself as "one of the millions of persecuted women in Iran."

The Iranian sportswoman did not reveal where you currently live, but reports said that she was training in the Netherlands.

Kimia Alizadeh made a historic achievement for Iran, when she won the bronze medal in taekwondo at the Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

She said through an account on Instagram that the Iranian authorities have used their "sporting success" as a tool to promote and publicize their policies.

The announcement of Al-Riyadiah leaving the country comes at a time when Iran is invading demonstrations after the Ukrainian plane was accidentally shot down by an Iranian missile on Wednesday, and in the midst of escalating confrontations between Tehran and Washington.

"I am one of the millions of persecuted women in Iran who have been manipulated for years," the Olympic star wrote.

"I was wearing whatever clothes they wanted, and I said everything they ordered me to do. I repeated every sentence they told me to say. They don't care about any of us. We are just tools."

She added that although the government was exploiting her athletic success politically, officials were "humiliating" her with comments such as "It is not indecent for a woman to stretch her legs."

Ali Zadeh denied that she was invited to Europe or given an attractive offer, and did not reveal the name of the country she left for.

The leak of news of Ali Zadeh's disappearance last week, shocked Iran.

Iranian politician Abdul Karim Hussainzadeh criticized the "incompetence of officials" who allowed "Iranian human wealth to escape."

On Thursday, the semi-official Iranian news agency, Esna, released a report saying, "Taekwondo shock in Iran. Kimia Alizadeh has migrated to the Netherlands."

The agency stated that Alizadeh had hoped to participate in the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020, but not under the flag of Iran.

The sports heroine did not mention in her announcement to leave Iran to her future plans, but she said that she will remain "the daughter of Iran wherever she is."
