Good news for children with peanut allergy

The US Food and Drug Administration has adopted a new treatment for children's allergy to peanuts.

The new drug, called AR101 or Polifurzia, adopts oral immunotherapy by consuming small amounts of peanut protein in children, which increases over time for six months under medical supervision.

After that, the person receiving treatment should continue to take a dose of the new drug daily to prevent any allergic symptoms that may appear for any accidental consumption of peanuts.

This drug cannot be relied upon to treat this type of allergy. Rather, it is used to prevent it. Its manufacturers warn that its use in treatment may lead to anaphylaxis.

Therefore, patients taking the new treatment continue to avoid taking peanuts and not including it in their diet.

And peanuts are among the most sensitive foods Americans suffer from, with a noticeable increase in the number of people with this type of allergy in the western United States over the past few decades.

Attempts have been made to treat peanut allergies in the United States and other countries, but the new drug is the first approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. But this drug is still not authorized in the UK.

The new drug, which has been approved for use by patients from four to 17 years, is made in powder form.

Researchers at Kings College in London confirmed last year that oral immune medications "can be prevented and not cured" for peanut allergy sufferers, suggesting that treatment proves to be effective only when a patient consumes small amounts of foods with which he is allergic .
