Bayern clinch top Bundesliga from Leipzig

Mainz suffered a defeat by Bayern Munich 1-0. With this victory, Bayern Munich snatched the Bundesliga lead from the Razen Palsport Leipzig team, who led the list last week, after advancing by one point.

Bayern Munich scored three goals in the first 26 minutes, beating hosts Mainz today (February 1, 2020), to advance by one point in the lead in the German Bundesliga with a sixth consecutive victory in the championship.

Robert Lewandowski, the league's top scorer, opened the scoring in the eighth minute, scoring his 22nd goal in the competition, then Thomas Muller and Thiago Alcantara added two goals to lift Bayern to 42 points, one point ahead of Razen Palsport Leipzig, who drew 2-2 at home to Borussia Monchengladbach.

Bayern's quick start was enough to clinch the match and Mainz, who cut the difference at the end of the first half through Jeremiah St. Just, did not pose a real danger to the visitors' goal.

Bayern set a record by scoring 58 goals in the first 20 league games, which will reinforce the position of interim coach Hans Flick, whose future with the team is not yet clear. "I was a fan of our first half an hour," Flick told reporters. "After that we did little, we lost our speed."

"We defended well and got the three points," added the Bayern coach, who is preparing to host Leipzig next week.

Dortmund enjoyed greater control and crushed its guest Onion Berlin 5-0 thanks to the double of Norwegian Erling Halland who became the first player in the history of the league to score seven goals in the first three games.

Gideon Sancho opened the scoring in the 13th minute, and Halland consolidated Dortmund's lead five minutes later.

Dortmund scored two quick goals in the second half through Marco Royce and Axel Witsel before Halland added his second goal and Dortmund achieved his third consecutive victory in the league this year.

Leipzig equalized two minutes late to get one point against Mönchengladbach, thanks to Christopher Nankko's equalization in the 89th minute.

Mönchengladbach, whose player was sent off after an hour's play, advanced 2-0 in the first half but Patrick Schick cut the difference in the 50th minute and then saved Nkinko, the host.
