US President Donald Trump has announced the killing of the leader of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula Qasim al-Rimi in a military operation in Yemen.
Earlier reports spoke of Al-Rimi’s death in a US raid in Yemen since last January, but the organization issued an audio message with Rimi’s voice to respond to those reports, but it appears that the message was recorded earlier.
"Under al-Rimi's leadership, al-Qaeda has committed violence against civilians in Yemen and has also sought to carry out and inspire its supporters to carry out attacks against the United States and our forces," Trump said in a statement.
"The killing of al-Rimi has weakened al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and around the world, and this process has brought us close to eliminating the threat of those groups that threaten our national security," Trump said in a statement.
