Austrian police announced that gunmen opened fire, on Monday night, in six different locations in the center of the capital, Vienna, in an attack that resulted in two deaths, including one of the perpetrators of the attack, while the other was a bystander.

About 15 people, injured during the attack near a synagogue in the capital, were taken to Vienna hospitals for treatment, while Reuters news agency said at least 7 of them were in critical condition.

The police said in a tweet on Twitter that "there was shooting in six locations" around the synagogue, "one person died and" others were injured, noting that "the police shot a suspect and killed him."

The Austrian Interior Minister said, in an interview with "ORF" television, that there is a belief that the motive behind the incident was terrorist.

In another tweet, the police asked citizens to stay at home, stressing the need not to take public transportation.

"Stay home! If you are on the streets, be careful! Stay away from public places and do not use public transport," the tweet read.
