Before the start of Expo 2020, the UAE eases restrictions on face masks

 The UAE announced that it would be allowed not to wear face masks in some specific places, according to what the official news agency (WAM) reported, days before the start of the Expo 2020 in the Emirate of Dubai.

The Ministry of Health and Community Protection and the National Authority for Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management in the Gulf state allowed the non-mandatory wearing of the muzzle in some places, while adhering to the application of the principle of physical distancing of two meters.


And the UAE authorities stated, “It will be allowed not to wear a mask when exercising in public places and on private means of transportation for residents of the same house, in addition to beachgoers and open swimming pools and people who are alone in closed spaces or when obtaining personal services for the face and head in barber and beauty centers and salons. As well as in medical centers and clinics upon diagnosis and treatment.


She added that local authorities should put up signs in places where masks are allowed to be removed.


The UAE agency attributed the new decision to the noticeable decrease in the number of recorded infections, the expansion of the examination cycle and the availability of multiple anti-coronavirus vaccines, in addition to the society's cooperation in implementing precautionary measures during the previous stage.


According to the Emirates News Agency, the percentage of the population receiving one dose of the vaccine exceeded 92 percent, while the percentage of those receiving two doses of the vaccine exceeded 81 percent.


On Tuesday, the UAE recorded 322 new cases of COVID-19, out of about 341,000 examinations nationwide.


Dubai, one of the seven emirates in the United Arab Emirates, opens the World Expo 2020 on October 1, which it hopes will attract 25 million domestic and foreign visitors. Everyone over the age of 18 who attends the Expo will have to be vaccinated against the coronavirus or present a negative test certificate to enter.
