The UAE is discussing with the Assad regime the activation of the Council of Businessmen
Today, Sunday, the UAE and the Syrian regime held talks to restructure and activate the Syrian-Emirati Businessmen Council.
The Syrian regime's spokeswoman, SUNA, said that the talks were held on the sidelines of the Expo 2020 Dubai, between the Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Muhammad Samer Al-Khalil, and his Emirati counterpart Abdullah Tawk.
According to the agency, the two ministers discussed economic issues of common interest, including the agreement to re-form and activate the Syrian-Emirati Businessmen Council with the aim of encouraging trade exchange, investment and cooperation on the economic level between the two countries.
The two ministers agreed on the importance of economic diversification for economic stability, in addition to medium and small projects. As it constitutes the largest percentage of the projects operating in the two countries, and is the main supporter of the economy and the main engine for it, the importance of reviving bilateral cooperation in all economic sectors was also discussed.
She pointed out that the UAE Minister of Economy expressed his country's readiness to provide support to Syria by transferring the successful Emirati experience in the economic sector.
The Emirates News Agency, WAM, did not provide any information about the meeting.
On September 23, the UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail Al Mazrouei, discussed with the Syrian Minister of Water Resources, Tammam Raad, the promotion of joint cooperation in various fields, especially water and energy.
Last June, Abu Dhabi announced its readiness to resume flights with Damascus through Dubai and Sharjah airports.
In December 2018, the UAE reopened its embassy in Damascus, as the first among the Arab countries that boycotted the Syrian regime after the revolution against Bashar al-Assad's rule.
