Austrian Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg announced, Friday, that the government will impose a closure that includes all residents, days after a stone decision targeting the unvaccinated, so that Austria will be the first country in the European Union to take such measures in light of the high number of Corona injuries, according to AFP.
And he confirmed in a press conference in the state of Tyrol, where he met local government officials, that Austria will oblige its residents to receive vaccines against Corona, as of next February.
He indicated that the closure will start from Monday, and it will be evaluated after ten days.
"Despite working on this for months, we have not succeeded in persuading enough people to receive vaccinations," he said, accusing people who refuse to be vaccinated of launching an "attack on the health system."
The closure means that residents will no longer be able to leave their homes, with few exceptions including shopping for essentials and exercising.
Earlier this week, Austria began imposing a stone on unvaccinated people or those who had recently recovered, becoming the first European country to do so.
But injuries continued to rise. And on Thursday, Austria, which has a population of about nine million, recorded a new record number of HIV infections, amounting to more than 15,000 cases.
The demand for vaccinations has increased in recent days, and 66 percent of the population is now fully vaccinated, which is slightly lower than the rate in the European Union of more than 67 percent.
Other European countries are also tightening restrictions, at a time when the number of infections is rising across the continent.
And the government in Hungary (Hungary), which borders Austria, announced on Thursday that it will re-command the population to wear masks in closed places, starting next Saturday.
