Austria announced the imposition of isolation on those who have not been vaccinated against Corona or those who have not recovered from Covid 19, in order to limit the significant rise in the number of injuries, while the Prime Minister of the German state of Bavaria is calling for similar restrictions to be imposed on non-vaccinators in Germany.
Austrian Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg agreed with the heads of state governments in his country to impose a special closure on the unvaccinated population against the Corona virus. The measures will be implemented as of tomorrow, Monday (November 15, 2021). The closure likely means that people who are not vaccinated against the Corona virus, will only be allowed to leave their homes, for specific vital tasks, or for medical emergencies.
Random inspections will be conducted to ensure compliance, in accordance with the decision issued by the Schallenberg and state heads of government meeting. Violators of the lockdown will be fined up to 1,450 euros ($1,660). There will be an exception for schools and pupils. The Austrian chancellor also noted that the guidelines provided provide ground, adding that states are free to apply stricter guidelines.
Austria records records, almost daily, for infections with the Corona virus. Yesterday, Saturday, the authorities recorded more than 13,000 cases. Schallenberg said the decision was "not taken lightly." And he added, "In light of the current vaccination rates, we will remain stuck in a vicious circle" of infection with the Corona virus. He added that the "shamefully low" vaccination rate should go up. Only about 65% of the population in Austria has been vaccinated so far.
The closure measures will be applied for an initial period of 10 days, and will affect about two million people. Austrian Health Minister Wolfgang Mikstein said the aim was to boost preparedness for vaccinations and reduce social contact by around 30%. Major restrictions are already being imposed on those without a vaccine, for example having to submit a negative coronavirus test result to go to work, and being unable to participate in many aspects of public life.
Germany on the path of Austria?
In Germany, the head of the government of the German state of Bavaria, Markus Söder, expressed his belief that restrictions should be imposed on contacts of non-vaccinated people against Corona due to the sharp rise in the number of Covid-19 infections. Before a closed cabinet meeting, the Bavarian Christian Social Party leader said on Sunday: "We need to have the possibility to impose restrictions on contacts of unvaccinated people."
Soder, whose state re-imposed the compulsory wearing of masks, explained that this step is needed as an additional means, warning that without this, it will not be possible to control the high numbers of Corona injuries. At the same time, Söder also called for setting limits on the number of people participating in various events.
Söder issued an urgent appeal, in which he appealed to the federal government and the states to unite. He also called on the parties of the potential new government to prepare a draft to introduce noticeable tightening of the Contagion Protection Act, and said that "the situation threatens to deviate from the path throughout the country, and avoiding the crisis is no longer sufficient alone, as we have to It is now up to all of us as federal and states to act decisively, and we need to come together and not swing back and forth." Soder stressed that declaring the end of the epidemiological situation is the wrong way in all respects. Specifically, Söder called for compulsory vaccination to be applied to occupational groups.
