On Monday, US President Joe Biden signed his massive plan to modernize infrastructure and invest in jobs, considering this legislation as evidence that Democrats and Republicans can work together and agree.
"It will create a lot of jobs for Americans in a lot of areas like solar panels and electric cars with high wages, and it will enable us to export clean energy to the world. This law will create a grid for charging electric cars," Biden said during a press conference on the White House lawn, on the occasion of signing the legislation. .
He added, "This law will enable everyone to access the Internet, improve the condition of our airports and ports, and develop our ability to face upcoming natural disasters," noting that the United States lost $99 billion last fiscal year as a result of natural disasters alone.
The plan, approved by Congress about ten days ago after painstaking negotiations, allocates $1.2 trillion to renovate and build bridges, roads, electric vehicle charging stations, water channels and develop railways.
The plan also provides for the development of public transportation and high-speed internet, addressing the climate crisis, promoting environmental justice and investing in poor communities.
Biden emphasized that the move would improve the US economy, as well as competition with countries such as China, by strengthening US manufacturing and supply chains.
