RENAULT UNVEILS TWO NEW HYDROGEN UTILITIES

With the ambition of offering its first hydrogen-powered models for sale before the end of the year, Renault has just unveiled two new vehicles: a "city bus" version of the Trafic and a cab chassis.

Renault is also relying on hydrogen to reduce its CO2 emissions. Its joint venture with the American Plug Power, called Hyvia, wants to offer its first models for sale at the end of 2021.

After the battery electric and the extension, the 100% hydrogen Master

In October, Hyvia already presented a first model: its utility Renault Master Van running only on hydrogen. This model differs from the Master and Kangoo already marketed under the name "Z.E. Hydrogen".

The latter are in fact equipped with a fuel cell which serves as a range extender for the 33 kWh capacity electric battery.

Versions more enduring than these two models

also operate only on battery: for the Master, the range goes from 130 kilometers in 100% electric battery to 320 kilometers in the version with hydrogen extension. The 100% hydrogen version further improves this crucial point, in particular on utility vehicles.

Autonomy reaches here 500 kilometers announced thanks to four tanks which can carry 1.5 kg of hydrogen each and always the battery of 33 kWh. For 100% hydrogen vehicles (the battery is only recharged via the fuel cell), Hyvia uses the designation "H2-Tech".

With 12 m3 of loading, this "H2-Tech" Master offers another "carbon-free" solution to professionals to access cities which are increasingly closed to thermal vehicles, in particular via the establishment of ZFEs (low-carbon zones). emissions).

A range of three H2-Tech stamped vehicles

At the Solutrans trade fair, which will be held in Lyon from November 16 to 20, Hyvia has just presented two other vehicles, which are in reality variations of the Master H2-Tech: a "Chassis Cab" can adapt to "over-transformations. measurement ", in particular a large volume van of 19m3 with up to 1 tonne of payload. The two tanks of 1.5 kg each, with the hydrogen stored at 700 bars, offer 250 kilometers of autonomy.

Second version, the "Master City Bus H2-Tech", a minibus that can carry up to 15 passengers (9 seated, 6 standing), with easy and secure access for people with reduced mobility.

Autonomy is announced at nearly 300 kilometers with a single tank containing 4.5 kg of hydrogen at 350 bars.

Hydrogen vehicles "made in France"

Hyvia intends to develop in France with four sites concerned. Its headquarters are located in Yvelines, not far from the Renault site in Flins, which will focus on the assembly of fuel cells and recharging stations as part of the "Re-Factory" project.

The vehicles will be produced in Batilly, near Metz (Meurthe-et-Moselle) and the integration of fuel cells in Gretz-Armainvilliers (Seine-et-Marne).
