SEMI-DRIVERS, TRANSPORT ... HOW HYUNDAI OVERCOME THE CRISIS IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY IN EUROPE

On BFM Business, the president of Hyundai Motor France explained the recipe for his success. The group has a stock of semiconductors and its ships ensure deliveries in Europe.

Full box for Hyundai in Europe. The South Korean manufacturer is, along with Tesla, the only automotive group to post higher sales in Europe. Better still, it has become the third automotive group behind Stellantis and Volkswagen. In France, its growth is 30% when the sector average is between 2 and 3%.

The secret of this success is based not only on the strength of the Asian manufacturer, but also on the weaknesses of European manufacturers, particularly in the supply of semiconductors.

"We are a little less affected than our competitors by the semiconductor crisis. It is an undeniable advantage", admits on BFM Business Lionel French Keogh, president of Hyundai Motor France.

The group had anticipated its growth by placing large orders very early as soon as the factories restarted their activity at the end of the health crisis. But not only.

"There is also the geographical proximity to semiconductor manufacturers and our group, that helps", explains Lionel French Keogh.

"We have boats, not our competitors"

Logistics is another strong point of Hyundai. The group produces 70% of its cars in Korea, but has not suffered from the transport crisis which has delayed deliveries and pushed up transport prices.

"We manufacture cars, but also the boats that transport our cars. That means there are no problems in terms of logistics. We have the advantage of having supplies, which our competitors do not have." , specifies the boss of Hyundai Motor France.

Finally, the manager indicates that his group has created a wide product catalog compared to its competitors. Hyundai offers all the technologies of electrified, electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

"We did not make any dogmatic choices. While some have bet on everything electric. We want to meet all uses. We adapt to demand, not the reverse," said Lionel French Keogh.

The Korean group is going further with already hydrogen models. "The battery electric has no sustainability. Currently, hydrogen represents 5,000 car sales. It is very small, but in 2030, we imagine selling 500,000 vehicles per year", announces the manager, specifying that the group produces 8 million vehicles.
