A military transport plane crashed, Thursday, in western Russia, near the Ukrainian border, according to the Ministry of Defense, pointing out that all its crew members were killed, without specifying their number.
The crash, which occurred in the Voronezh region and was confirmed by a ministry spokesman to AFP, was caused by a technical malfunction, according to Russian news agencies, citing local authorities. It coincided with the launch of a large-scale military operation by the Russian army in neighboring Ukraine.
Earlier in the day, the Russian military also announced the crash of a Russian Su-25 fighter "as a result of a pilot's error", and said that the latter had ejected from the plane, "safe and in his military unit."
The Russian army revealed that it had destroyed 74 military facilities, including 11 airstrips in Ukraine, as Moscow launched a large-scale military operation in the morning.
"After the strikes of the Russian armed forces, 74 ground military installations of the Ukrainian military infrastructure are out of service. This includes 11 airstrips for the Air Force," said Russian Defense Ministry spokesman General Igor Konashenkov.
He also announced the destruction of "three Ukrainian command headquarters and naval base, and 18 radar stations for the Ukrainian S-300 and BUK-M1 missile defense systems," as well as "an attack helicopter" and "four Turkish-made Bayraktar TB-2 drones."
