A Thai officer has killed at least 12 people and wounded several others in the city of Korat and its environs, northeast of the capital, Bangkok, according to Thai police.
Thai Defense Ministry sources told the BBC that Jacravant Toma, a junior officer, had attacked his commander and then stole a rifle and ammunition from the camp.
Jacravant began shooting at a Buddhist temple and shopping mall in the city, northeast of Bangkok.
He appeared in footage broadcast by local media as he left a cart in front of a shopping center and started shooting while people were fleeing in front of him.
The authorities have closed the shopping center, and the search for the officer is still going on, as it is reported that he is inside the building.
The suspect used social media accounts during the attack, and asked followers on Facebook if he should surrender.
He had posted a photo of a gun with three combs of bullets, with a caption saying "It's time to get excited."
