More than 23 people injured as two trains collide in Boston

More than 23 people were injured as two trains collided on Commonwealth Street in Boston, as well as extensive damage to the two trains.

"23 people were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries following the incident yesterday evening," the Boston Fire Department said in a tweet on its official Twitter page.

This came after the Massachusetts Gulf Transportation Authority announced that two trains collided with one another on the Commonwealth Avenue Railroad in Boston.

The Transport Authority stated that the violent accident occurred after six in the evening local time, noting that among the injured were four drivers on board the two trains.

Service on Line B, which runs through the Boston University campus, was disrupted for several hours while rescue efforts were underway, with investigators staying at the scene late into the night.

In a related context, CNN quoted an eyewitness as saying: "The train stopped at the light when it suddenly sped forward. It felt like the worst ride in an amusement park you can imagine."

Another witness who was sitting in a car when the accident occurred said that some passengers sustained neck and head injuries.
