Federal arrest warrant for Gabi Pettito's fiancé

The US authorities have issued a federal arrest warrant for the fiancé of the 22-year-old American girl, Gabriel (Gabi) Pettito, who was found murdered a few days ago, in a park in Wyoming.

On Thursday, Pettito's fiancé was charged with fraudulently using her debit card during their road trip across the country, according to Reuters.

A search warrant was issued for her fiancé, Brian Laundry, 23, who has been sought by police for several days, after a jury in a Wyoming District Court charged him with illegal use of the Petitto card and PIN, while he was not charged in her death.

"While this warrant allows law enforcement to detain Laundry, the FBI and our partners across the country continue to investigate the facts and circumstances of Pettito's murder," FBI Special Agent in charge Michael Schneiders said in a statement.

"We urge individuals with knowledge of Laundry's involvement in this matter, or his current whereabouts, to contact the FBI," Schneider added.

According to the indictment, Laundry is accused of spending $1,000 or more on the card between August 30 and September 1. Pettito was last seen on August 24. Investigators seem to believe she was killed sometime between 27 and 30 August.

The whereabouts of Brian Laundry, the girl's fiancé, is still unknown, and the police launched an extensive search for him, considering him "an important person in the case."

The fiancés had been cruising in a small white van across the American West, on a national park road trip, since last July, and documented parts of the trip on YouTube and Instagram, before stopping suddenly in late August.

Police said Brian Laundry, who was driving a Florida plated van, returned to Northport, south of Tampa, on September 1, 10 days before Pettito's family reported him missing.

Pettito's disappearance was reported on September 11, 10 days after her fiancé returned alone. The road trip across the country was supposed to take four months, and Laundry has not spoken publicly about Pettito's whereabouts and why he returned from the trip alone.
