1 dead, 12 injured in shooting in Tennessee

A gunman opened fire inside a Tennessee grocery store on Thursday, killing one person and wounding 12 others, authorities said, adding that they found the gunman dead, from wounds sustained after being shot, according to “CBS News.”

for his part; Collierville Police Chief Del Lane confirmed Thursday evening that one of the victims is in the intensive care unit and the other is undergoing surgery, and it was not clear the extent of the others' injuries.

Police responded to reports of active gunfire around 1:30 p.m. local time in Collierville, a suburb about 30 miles east of Memphis. They were still in hiding.

“This scene is horrific, I’ve been in my business for 34 years and have never seen anything like it,” Lynn said, adding that there were no additional threats to society, and an additional press conference was scheduled for Friday morning.

Two law enforcement sources told the media that investigators are working to determine whether workplace violence was a factor in the shooting, and sources said investigators are looking into whether or not the deceased shooter was an employee disgruntled with his work and co-workers, and sources said the situation is changing. There does not appear to be a link to terrorism.

It was not clear how many store employees were killed. Teresa Dickerson, chief of public affairs for the Western Tennessee department, said the store owner would provide advisory services to all employees, while the police chief confirmed that 44 employees were in the store at the time of the shooting, according to “CNN.”

The Collierville Police Department hosted active shooting training less than 3 months before the shooting, the police chief said Thursday, and Lane said the training helped victims receive medical help quickly.
