After soaring fuel prices, experts from the German Automobile Association (ADAC) offer some important steps and "golden" tips to reduce fuel consumption while driving. Learn about the most important in this report.
This sharp rise in prices follows the drop in demand in year last due to the pandemic corona , with drop prices of oil crude and vehicle fuels , which started in the shift in November from last year . That's why experts in the German Automobile Association (ADAC) advise taking some steps to save fuel while driving, such as:
Avoid short trips: On short trips, it is preferable to use a bike instead of a car. It is also recommended to combine several individual trips into a longer trip.
Reducing the load and therefore the total weight: Every increase in the car means more weight and more fuel cost. This effect is caused by the so-called mass inertia, i.e. the use of energy required to accelerate mass to a higher speed.
So you better get rid of everything you don't need in the car! 100 kilograms of additional payload results in up to 0.3 liters of additional consumption.
Use energy-saving tires: With optimized tires, you can save up to 0.5 liters of fuel per 100 kilometres. This means that what at first glance appears to be an expensive tire with extremely low rolling resistance can pay for itself over its useful life.
Pay attention to the correct air pressure: Also check the air pressure regularly, because the lack of air in the tires increases the consumption of your car. Even lowering the air pressure by 0.3 bar increases rolling resistance and thus leads to unnecessary additional consumption. To save more fuel, you can increase the tire pressure moderately recommended by the vehicle manufacturer, provided it is mentioned in the operating instructions.
Inspect your vehicle regularly: for spare parts that are definitely related to fuel consumption, such as the engine air filter. Regular oil changes, which must always be carried out with fresh, low-viscosity oil, are also important for favorable consumption values. Subject to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications here.
Turn off unnecessary equipment: Vehicle electrical appliances, such as control units, lighting, fans, air conditioning, and safety and comfort devices, draw their power from the vehicle's on-board network. Electric power is provided by a generator, which is powered by an internal combustion engine. As a result, the electrical appliances that are operated and others consume fuel.
Closing windows: Windows opening on both sides at a speed of 100 km / h, for example, increases fuel consumption by 0.2 liters. Only at lower speeds, eg in city traffic - opening windows can achieve a significant consumption advantage over air conditioning.
