More than half of US consumers are considering giving gifts from thrift stores and second-hand stores this holiday season, as the supply chain crisis and inflation grow increasingly challenging.
A survey conducted by ThredUp, a website for buying and selling high-quality used clothing online, showed that 53% of consumers would buy second-hand because of shipping delays and difficulty finding good gifts to give in a timely manner, compared to 52% who would do so due to high prices.
In September, Fox Business experts appealed to shoppers to buy gifts early to have a greater chance of avoiding shipping delays and shortages, and also to save money.
He also explained that 62% of American shoppers believe that gifts of used clothing "are more socially acceptable now than they were 5 years ago." Similarly, 66% of them said that this year they would be willing to receive second-hand gifts.

She added that they "are increasingly seeking more sustainable options in line with their needs, in order to preserve the environment and reduce waste," at a time when they receive gifts that may not suit them.
