The US Department of State announced Monday that it is offering a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to the locating or any individual holding a key leadership position in the transnational organized crime group, Sodinokibi, for ransom.
The State Department also announced an offer of a reward of up to $5 million for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of any individual in any country who conspires to participate in or attempts to participate in the Sodinokibi ransom program incident.
The Sodinokibi Group, also known as REvil, is responsible for the ransomware incident that was committed against JBS Foods, a company that supplies agricultural products primarily to Australia and the United States, causing significant disruption to food processing and delivery, the State Department said in a statement. .
This group also puts Kaseya at risk, an IT management company that provides network services, applications, and infrastructure to thousands of small businesses and managed service providers.
She noted that the incident not only affected Kaseya's operations, but also the operations of its clients around the world.
The State Department statement stressed that by offering this reward, the United States is demonstrating its commitment to protecting victims of ransomware worldwide from exploitation by cybercriminals, and working with countries willing to bring these criminals to justice.
