Hamad International Airport, the main airport in Qatar, has been awarded the "ISO 14001" certification for environmental management from the British Standards Institution.
According to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on Wednesday, Hamad International Airport's obtaining the certificate from the British Standards Institution represents a major milestone in the implementation of the long-term environmental goals of the Qatari Company for the Management and Operation of Airports "Matar".
“Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Hamad International Airport, so we are very proud to be awarded this international accreditation,” said Bader Mohamed Al Meer, Chief Operating Officer at Hamad International Airport.
He added, “Over the past few years, we have taken important steps to reduce energy and water demand, and reduce and recycle waste, so this latest achievement will help further our ambition as environmental leaders in aviation.”
Qatar Airports Operations and Management Company "Matar" stated, in a statement, that "ISO 14001" is a business improvement standard that guides organizations to implement a solid environmental management system.
By obtaining the certificate, the company will have added another achievement to its basic strategy. The Foundation's goal is to maintain its commercial success while driving a responsible and sustainable environmental agenda.
The company stated that this certification will pave the way for the application of the environmental management system in the airport company across its airports, and Hamad International Airport will continue to prioritize sustainability at the core of its operations, through the main focus on reducing and recycling waste, improving energy and water, and reducing emissions.
It is noteworthy that Hamad International Airport, since its establishment in 2014, has won many awards, and obtained a number of ISO certificates, and other world-renowned international awards related to sustainability, innovation and environmentally friendly concepts.
In 2022, the airport was once again awarded the title of the best airport in the world for the second year in a row by the prestigious Skytrax Awards, and as the official partner of the 2022 World Cup.
