European report reveals what the World Cup will do every two years

Once again, the European Football Association "UEFA" insists on highlighting its opposition to the idea of organizing the World Cup every two years, this time by explaining the huge financial losses.

A recent report issued by "UEFA" estimated the deficit of the European federations for the game at between 2.5 and 3 billion euros over four years, in the event that the International Federation (FIFA) adopted its controversial plan to review the international calendar, including organizing the World Cup every two years, according to what he said. An internal source at the European Commission.

The European Union disclosed the results of this study to the officials of the 55 member federations, on Tuesday, knowing that this report does not take into account the possible additional revenue shortfall for the national championships, according to what the newspapers “Le Monde” and “L’Equipe” indicated, which revealed the content of the document.

And "UEFA" strongly stands against the "international calendar reform" project defended by "FIFA", which requires organizing the World Cup every two years starting from 2028, instead of every 4 years.

The voices opposing this project have already been joined by representatives of national leagues from around the world, football players and fans.

In return for this opposition, FIFA President Gianni Infantino supports this project, and continues his consultations with all concerned parties in the world of football, considering that this switch will lead to better benefits for the national federations, knowing that he recently stated that a final decision in this regard “will be taken before December next".

In order to make the biennial World Cup possible, the project of collecting qualifying matches in one window, in October or even in March and October, has also been proposed, while the World Cup qualifiers are currently organized throughout the year.

According to "Le Monde", it will be likely to cancel the European Nations League competition, which was recently established by the European Union, and France won its second edition a few days ago, and the European Cup will be organized every two years instead of every four years.

Le Monde and L'Equipe added that for UEFA, such a scenario risks causing losses also related to ticketing, carrier channels and sponsors.
